THE BENGO HOTEL

Truly an awe-striking gem, Bengo Hotel delights its clients with magnificent marble floors, a chic décor, and top-tier comfort in their splendid bedrooms.

Only two hours away from Yaoundé, Ebolowa is a small city in the Southern Region of Cameroon. Located right at Ebolowa's entrance it's boldness commands attention from all those passing by.

Built in 2019 to accommodate football (soccer) players competing in the 2019 edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON/CAN), Bengo was never conceived to be another ordinary hotel. Since, Bengo has been open to the public, and has also become a symbol of pride for the citizens of Ebolowa.

OUR ROOM - 503 & 504

Our two rooms are connected to each other via a communicating door and resemble each other in style. The designs and décor the rooms offer are aesthetically pleasing and complimented by the skillful paintings hung next to the bed. The queen-sized beds are extremely comfortable with pillows as fluffy as they are big with warm blankets to match. To the bed's right (in the picture) is the wardrobe equipped with a few cupboards and small hanging space.

The room also has a TV, a desk, and a small balcony with a view that you you get to choose between the mountain or the swimming pool upon reservation. They require a card to open and allow electricity to be activated in both rooms. This is a measure some hotels have adopted to reduce wasting electricity. Upon leaving the room with the card all the electronics will automatically shut down. Now that I think about it I might have slept in the same room as a professional football player!

THE BATHROOM

The bathroom is a bit spacious with a shower or a bathtub depending on your preference. When making your reservation you will be given the option of choosing between the two. The bathroom is also equipped with razors, shower caps, and a toothbrush in case you forget.

THINGS TO KNOW

Being a hotel centered around luxury, Bengo leans towards the expensive side of the spectrum. The hotel's payment policy is that upon arrival the client must pay at least one night before occupying the room. During our stay they were offering promotional prices for all their rooms in the hotel. The regular and promotional prices are indicated below.

Standard Room - 65,000 Fcfa (regular price) - 45,000 Fcfa (promotion)

Other Rooms - 95,000 Fcfa (regular price) - 75,000 Fcfa (promotion)

THE RESTAURANT

Contrary to the pricey rooms, the restaurant is affordable with a few pricey dishes here and there, but for the most part dining will not threaten your finances. It is also important to note that breakfast is not included in the price of the room. Furthermore, Bengo doesn't offer buffets for breakfast but rather everything is to be ordered on the menu, including breakfast. On the plus side room service is available for everyone.

To enjoy a stress-free stay at Bengo I would recommend budgeting a bit and bringing your own food to allow your credit cards some rest. I don't really know if it's allowed but that's what we did...oops.

AMENITIES & ACTIVITIES

The Bengo Hotel is equipped with a night club (THE BENGO CLUB), a large swimming pool accompanied with an open-air jacuzzi. It also has a gym, which from what I saw may not be very big.

NKOLANDOM

A popular attraction in Ebolowa,the Touristic Centre Nkolandom is around a 20 - 35 minutes drive away from Bengo. While we only caught a glimpse of the park, from the pictures on IG there seems to be a museum and cultural activities. It's very kid friendly and they also have accommodations near the park.

PARKING

The hotel has two different parking lots, one for the night club and one for the hotel's clients. The security gauds at the entrance will show you the client's parking lot after you have unloaded your baggage.

WIFI

There is wifi at the hotel however during the day it is a bit slow and you may have to refresh or connect and disconnect occasionally for it to work. At around 23hr (11 PM) - 3hr (3AM) the connect "magically" starts to work lightning fast. I wouldn't recommend staying up later for faster connection as the connection in the day is fine and perfectly functional, it's just a bit slow.

WHAT I ENJOYED

Inarguably the bed was my favourite thing about the entire stay. I greatly appreciated the style being elegant and chic (c'est chique, freak out!). The comfort level of the bedding was extremely pleasant to snuggle into at night, and quiet honesty I don't know why, it was just very relaxing. Although quiet pricey the hotel really is beautiful and the clients comfort as their priority.
